CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The No. 22 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team competed in the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by Cedarville University on the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
In a six-kilometer event that was composed entirely of colleges from the state of Ohio, the race featured schools from the NCAA Division I, II, and III level, and from NAIA institutions as well. For Division III, BW managed to place third out of 16 teams, scoring 73 adjusted points. When including participating schools across all divisions, the Yellow Jackets came in 10th place out of 35 teams with 285 points. Oberlin College took home the Division III title with 50 adjusted points, and the University of Dayton finished in first overall with 73 total points.
Five of BW's runners earned All-Ohio honors by placing in the top 35. Sophomore runner Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) garnered All-Ohio honors for the first time by leading the charge for BW with a third place finish in 23:30.7. Not too far behind was senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) who finished eighth in 23:44.4, while earning All-Ohio honors for the fouth time in her career. Next to cross the finish line for the Yellow Jackets, in consecutive fashion, were juniors Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) and Molina Otte (Omaha, Neb./Millard West), who ran for 17th in 23:58.2 and 18th in 23:58.5, respectively. It was Marek's second time and Otte's first time claiming All-Ohio honors. Rounding out the top five runners for BW was junior Madison Kile (North Canton/Hoover) who placed 28th in 24:28.6, good enough for her third career All-Ohio honor.
The Yellow Jackets will return to the racecourse on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic in Tom Sawyer State Park, hosted by the University of Louisville.
