Kyra Coundourides enters her first year as an assistant coach her at Baldwin Wallace University in 2018-19. 

Coundourides has been in the coaching realm since 2011, where she has gained valuable experience in coaching private lessons for children of various ages and skill training at The Academy for Volleyball Coaches. She has worked specifically with setters, but teaches all skills to a multiple of positions and helped coach one of her teams to a regional championship.

“I’m very excited and thankful that Scott gave me an opportunity to coach at the college level”, stated Coundourides. “Volleyball has always been a huge part of my life, and I’m excited to see the coaching side of the sport. On top of that, I get to be close to home again and be around what I love. I am able to become a part of the BW legacy that my family is a part of, and I think the program has some big things coming.”

Before arriving at Baldwin Wallace, Coundourides was a student-athlete at Temple University where she earned her degree with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and earned Cum Laude honors. Coundourides spent two seasons at Temple where she was a two-year starter and two-year varsity letterman from 2016-18. While at Temple, she earned the CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-America honors, as well as the American Athletic Second Team All-Conference honors 

Prior to her two seasons at Temple, Coundourides was at Virginia Tech from 2014-16. She also earned two varsity letters at Virginia Tech and earned Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll honors. As a freshman at Tech, Coundourides saw time in all 31 matches and tallied double-digit assists in 29 of those contests, playing a key part in the victories over three top-25 programs in the country.

In high school, Coundourides was a four-year All-Ohio and All-District selection, as well as being named to the PrepVolleyball Top-100 Senior Aces list. Alongside these accolades, she also earned All-America Honorable Mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2013. While earning a numerous of individual awards, Coundourides helped her team reach the Final Four in the state playoffs. She has also competed for the Academy for Volleyball Cleveland club team and helped the team to a USA Volleyball National Championship Runner-Up finish. Coundourides holds the school record for career assists and career aces.  

Coundourides, the daughter of Stacy and Karol Coundourides, who both played volleyball here at BW. The mother competed in basketball, softball, and track, earning Outstanding Senior Female Athlete honors while she was a Yellow Jacket. Her brother Alex was a four-year starter for the men’s volleyball team at BW as well.
