FROSTBURG, Md. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team scored two second-half goals in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Frostburg State (Md.) University in non-conference action inside Bobcat Stadium.
On the game's first shot on goal in the eighth minute, Frostburg State (1-4 overall) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Determined to even things up sooner rather than later, BW (4-1-1 overall) rifled off a series of four shots within two minutes, one that hit the post and three that were blocked. The rest of the first half passed uneventfully until the 38th minute when junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) was able to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard by recording three saves before halftime.
Five minutes into the second half, senior three-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) found freshman forward Michelina Rush (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) for her first collegiate goal, tying the game at 1-1. After another three Bobcat shots missed the mark, Bender put the Yellow Jackets ahead for good with an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute. BW was able to lock down the defense and hold on to the lead as Frostburg only took two more shots the rest of the game.
In goal, Bruno picks up her third win of the season, bouncing back to record five saves after allowing the early score. The Bobcats held the advantage in most offensive categories: shots (12-10), shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (6-2).
BW returns to Ohio for a non-conference contest against Hiram College on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hiram Soccer Complex.
