ALLIANCE, Ohio – In the team's regular season finale, the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team fell to the Ohio Athletic Conference leading University of Mount Union Purple Raiders 22-5 inside Mount Union Stadium.
Sophomore All-OAC attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) led BW (7-9, 5-3 OAC) as the Yellow Jackets only multi-goal scorer. Sophomore All-OAC midfielder Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland), sophomore midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) and junior All-OAC midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) each chipped in one goal while Stein won a team-high four draw controls and caused a team-high three turnovers. Senior defender Lauryn Wright (Orrville) picked up a team-leading three ground balls.
Junior attack Ashley Bernardi led Mount Union (14-0, 7-0 OAC) with a game-high seven goals. Sophomore attack Danielle Rohrman chipped in six goals of her own. Sophomore midfielder Kenzie Pensyl netted four goals while senior attack Katie Elder scored three goals to round out the Purple Raiders multiple scorers.
Stein put BW on the scoreboard first when she scored an unassisted goal within the first minute of the game. The Purple Raiders countered with the tying goal with 28:12 left in the first half and then continued on with seven more goals to take an 8-1 lead. Martineau put an end to the run with her first goal of the night at the 13:09 mark but Mount Union continued to build up to a 12-2 lead. Both teams traded two goals to end the half as the Purple Raiders went into the locker room with a 14-4 advantage.
Mount Union scored eight of the second half's nine goals with the Yellow Jackets lone score coming off the stick of Patrick with 20:15 remaining in the game.
BW will await the rest of the Ohio Athletic Conference teams to finish out the regular season on Saturday, April 28, before the Yellow Jackets find out their postseason fate.
