BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team finished 29th today (Saturday, November 21, 2009) with 583 points at the 2009 NCAA Division III National Cross Country Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace at Highland Park Golf Course in Highland Hills. It was the BW women's seventh NCAA appearance under veteran Head Coach Bill Taraschke and first since 2002.
"We ran extremely well, we ran better as a pack than we have in past meets," said Taraschke. "It was one of our best races of the year. Every runner on our team contributed and I'm extremely proud of each of them."
"DArcy (Hlavin) and Kim (Chinn) ran their usual race and ran very well. Sarah (Rospert) ran an excellent race and did a great job of staying with the pack," said Taraschke.
"The course was muddier and slower than I anticipated, but I was able to forget about everything and just run my race, said Hlavin. I am very proud of how my teammates ran and having everyone with me this year made the experience unforgettable."
"At the start, I was both excited and calm at the same time," said Chinn. The race started so fast and we went out in 5:40 the first mile but I was able to run my race and I had a great day at the perfect time."
Junior Katie White (Berea) was sixth for the Jackets in 215th place (24:45.0) and sophomore Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield Twp./ Medina Buckeye) was seventh for the Jackets in 266th place (25:35.9).
Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the team national title with 171 points and Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence (N.Y.) University was the individual national champion in a time of 21:28.0.
