KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time in his career, Baldwin Wallace University junior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) has landed on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Scholar All-America team.
Tabbed as a second-team selection, Ruple is the only OAC men's soccer student-athlete to be named to this year's team.
Ruple is an accounting major who carries a 3.92 GPA. In the classroom, he is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society, two-time Academic All-OAC selection, an Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) Academic All-Ohio honoree, a two-time Academic All-District 7 selection and a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Google Cloud Academic All-American.
On the field, Ruple was among the conference leaders in all offensive categories yet again. At the end of the regular season, his team-leading 14 goals, 10 assists and 38 points ranked him third in goals and second in assists and points, respectively. Ruple broke two school records during the course of the season – single season shots with 85 and career points with 105 – in addition to the two single-season records he holds from 2017.
For his career, Ruple has appeared in all 57 games with 56 starts and has recorded 41 goals, 23 assists and 105 points. He is just five goals and five assists away from breaking the all-time school records in those categories. Ruple was named OAC Freshman of the Year in 2016, OAC Forward of the Year in 2017 and has been selected to the All-OAC team every season.
His other career honors include two OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week selections, two OCSA All-Ohio selections, the 2018 Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament Most Valuable Player award and a Raven/Spartan Classic All-Tournament Team selection.
BW finished the 2018 campaign with an overall record of 7-10-2 and a 2-6-1 mark in the OAC.
