AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) has been named the OAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
Ruple led the Yellow Jackets to a 1-1 record at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament, including a 3-2 season-opening win over Geneseo (N.Y.). He was responsible for three goals and one assist on nine shots, totaling seven points for the weekend.
The reigning OAC Forward of the Year opened up his junior campaign with a goal as well as an assist on the game-winning goal against Geneseo. Less than 24 hours later, Ruple scored both of the Yellow Jacket goals in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Houghton (N.Y.) College. Following the completion of all tournament games, Ruple was named Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Ruple leads both the Yellow Jackets and the conference in goals, points and shots in the early season while tying for third in the OAC with his one assist.
In his career, Ruple has appeared in 40 games and recorded 30 goals, 14 assists, 74 points and six game-winning goals. The junior holds two school records for most goals (19) and most points (45) scored in a single season, which he set last year.
BW is back in action tonight when the Yellow Jackets host non-conference foe the College of Wooster in the home opener at 7 p.m. on the new Tressel Field Surface inside George Finnie Stadium.
