Matt Hanhold enters his first season as the defensive backs and special teams coach at Baldwin Wallace University in 2018.
Hanhold came to BW after serving as the head coach at Cincinnati Country Day High School for one season. He mentored the 2017 Anthony Munoz Division VI Defensive Lineman of the Year, two first-team All-Miami Valley Football Conference and All-Southwest District linebackers and an Ohio Football All-Star.
Prior to Country Day, Hanhold was an associate head coach at Colby (Maine) College for five seasons. He also served as the co-defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator, assistant baseball coach, director of track operations and co-director of club sports during his tenure.
Hanhold also had coaching stops at Buffalo State (N.Y.) University and at NCAA Division II Clarion (Pa.) University. He served as the wide receivers and junior varsity coach for the Bengals from 2008-12 and was a graduate assistant coach working with the wide receivers and defensive backs for the Golden Eagles from 2006-08.
Hanhold obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Westminster (Pa.) College in 2006 and a Master’s of Science in rehabilitative services from Clarion in 2008. While at Westminster, he was three-year letterwinner on the defensive line, a President’s Athletic Conference selection as a junior, a team captain and served as a student assistant track coach.
Hanhold, a native of Youngstown and graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
