Today's Game --  The Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jacket football team plays its home opener as it welcomes number 10-nationally ranked and cross-town rival John Carroll University for an Ohio Athletic Conference showdown on Community and Family Day and the 27th Annual Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy.

Series Notes --  The Yellow Jackets and Blue Streaks have met 54 times on the gridiron. The all-time series is tied at 25-25-4. This is the 27th Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy game and that series is tied at 13-13. BW has won six of the past 11 meetings, but JCU won, 45-7, last season in University Heights. Home field advantage has been huge for the victor in 11 of the last 13 games.  The series began in 1923 when the Blue Streaks defeated the Yellow Jackets, 19-13.  Two notable names who have taken part in this series, B-W graduate and College Football Hall of Famer Lee Tressel and JCU grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula. 

Last Meeting -- The last time BW and John Carroll met on September 27, 2014, the Blue Streaks defeated the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 41-7.   John Carroll outgained BW 509-220 in total yards, including holding a 384-181 advantage through the air.

Scouting The Yellow Jackets
In week two of the season, BW scored 28 points on 139 passing yards, 199 rushing yards, and 338 total yards. Ohio Northern scored 27 points on 154 passing yards, 246 rushing yards, and 400 total yards. 

Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders

Offensively, BW senior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton /St. Thomas Aquinas) has completed 30 of 48 passes for 322 yards and one TD. He also tops the team in rushing with 275 yards on 41 attempts with three TD's.  Senior running back Issac Reed III (Leigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh) has rushed for 87 yards on 21 attempts.  Junior wide receiver Tyler Wolf (Fremont/ Ross) tops the receiving corps with nine receptions for 157 yards

Defensively, junior defensive back Brock Hull (Youngstown/Boardman)tops the team with 18 tackles with one sack and one interception.   Sophomore linebacker Sam Groff (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) is second on the team with 17 tackles.  Sophomore linebacker Sean Nischwitz (Clinton/Green) and senior defensive linemen Jake Mauer (Brunswick) are tied for third with 15 tackles.  Junior defensive end Andy Schultz (North Royalton) leads the team with three sacks


Scouting the Blue Streaks
In week two of the season, John Carroll scored 23 points on 178 yards passing, 117 rushing yards and 295 total yards. Heidelberg Univesrity scored 16 points on 145 yards rushing, 142 passing yards and 287 total yards.

Blue Streak Statistical Leaders
Offensivley, senior quarteback Jake Schaefer has completed 42 of 65 passes for 449 yards, five TD's and three interceptions. He also has the Blue Streaks only rushing TD.  Sophomores Arin Pruitt leads the rushing attack with 180 rushing yards on 47 attempts. Junior wide receiver Marshall Howell leads the receiving corps with 17 catches for 217 yards and three TD's. Pruitt is second with seven grabs for 86 yards and a TD.

Defensively, senior linebacker Andy Bryan tops the team with 15 tackles.  Senior defensive lineman David Porter and sophomore linebacker Mason McKendrick are second with 11 tackles. Freshman defensive lineman Ray Brown is third on the squad with 10 tackles but has a team-leading 2.5 sacks.
