Two Baldwin-Wallace College Football Student-Athletes Named to 2010 Academic All-OAC Team

BEREA, OHIO --  Two Baldwin-Wallace College Football standout student-athletes, junior defensive back Matt Bowen (Tiffin/ Columbian) and senior offensive lineman Dan Paterline (Reynoldsburg), have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.  Bowen was tabbed Academic All-OAC and Paterline was named to the honorable mention squad. Both played key roles as the Yellow Jackets finished 7-3 overall and third in the OAC.

"This is outstanding and indicative of two young men who have excelled both academically and athletically," said ninth-year Head Coach John Snell. "Both are excellent students first, team and campus leaders second and outstanding football players.  All of our younger student-athletes look up to them as role models.  The duo is accomplishing exactly what we want all of our young men to accomplish. We are extremely proud of each of them."

Bowen is an accounting and finance double major who carries a 3.67 grade point average who is a key three-year varsity standout. So far this season, he has been named as a first-team ESPN Academic All-District IV student-athlete who appeared on the national ESPN Academic All-America ballot, was named as an honorable mention All-OAC selection and earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 3-10.

This season, Bowen started all 10 games and was credited with making 50 total tackles, including 33 solo stops, four tackles for loss and one quarterback sack. He also was credited with forcing one fumble, breaking up 17 passes and making two interceptions.  Both of Bowen's interceptions were run back for touchdowns in successive games, and his 88-yard interception return for a score in a 35-34 win versus Otterbein University was the second longest in The George Finnie Stadium history.

For his career, Bowen has appeared in 20 games and has recorded 73 tackles, including five for loss,  one quarterback sack, 20 pass breaks and the two interceptions that were run back for TDs.

In addition to being an outstanding football player, Bowen is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

Paterline is a business administration and human resource management double major who carries a 3.482 grade point average. Earlier this fall, he was named as a second-team ESPN Academic All-District IV student-athlete.

On the football field, Paterline has been a key player on the offensive line. During his career, he has helped the Yellow Jackets average more than 30 points and 370 yards of offense per game.  He earned his third varsity letter and appeared in 29 varsity contests.
