Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to Denison on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was defeated by Denison University in a single nine inning and Seniors' and Parents' Day game by a final score of 8-4 on Fisher Field. 

Denison (26-8) has now won 15 of it last 17 games, including winning both meetings against BW (24-12) this season.  The Big Red scored eight runs on 11 hits as they plated one run in the second inning, erupted for five runs in the third and scored one in the fourth and sixth. The Yellow Jackets scored four runs on eight hits as they tallied three runs in the third and one in the fourth. 

BW was led by senior center fielder Chase Knodle (Poland/Seminary), sophomore first baseman Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and freshman shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) as the trio had two hits apiece.  Knodle was 2-for-5 with a run batted-in (RBI) and a run scored.  Bonner was 2-for-4 with a RBI.  Ludwick was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored

On the mound, freshman right-hander Jeremy McClure (Mentor) took the loss as he allowed five runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 2.1 innings.  Senior lefty Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) pitched two-thirds of an innings and allowed one run on two hits.   Senior left-hander Chad Kuebler (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) pitched one-third of an inning and allowed one run on two hits with a walk.  Sophomore lefty Spencer Berg (New Albany) pitched four innings and allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks.  Sophomore lefty Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) pitched the final 1.2 innings and did not allow a hit or a run with one strikeout.           

The Yellow Jackets close out the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Friday, May 4 when it travels to University Heights for a doubleheader against crosstown rival John Carroll University on Schweickert Field at 1 p.m.
