BW Baseball Falls to Montclair State at SnowBird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Montclair State (N.J.) University, 4-2, on the third day of competition at the annual SnowBird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.  The Yellow Jackets, 4-3 overall, will play five more games over the next four days on their trip. So far, BW is 2-1 in Florida with wins against Salem State (Mass.) University, 8-0, and versus Elms (Mass.) College, 11-3.

At the plate, the Yellow Jacket offense tacked on one run in the first inning when junior shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/Midpark) delivered a single to left center field, driving home junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North).  But the BW offense only scored one more run the rest of the game, which would come in the eighth inning on an error by senior shortstop Cody Pace of the Red Hawks, on a total of two hits and one walk.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Tom Loeffler (Shaker Heights) pitched the first four innings, delivering four strikeouts, but allowed three earned runs on five hits.  In relief, senior right-hander Jon Capadona (North Royalton) helped keep the Yellow Jackets within reach of the Red Hawks for the rest of the game, providing four innings of work by allowing only one earned run on one hit, three strikeouts, and no walks.

BW is back in action on Wednessday, March 12 when they take on South Dakota State University at 10:00 a.m. Fans can watch all of the action weather permitting via live stats at  To obtain more information on the SnowBird Classic, please visit
