PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Elms (Mass.) College, 11-3, on the second day of competition at the annual SnowBird Classic. With the win, the Yellow Jackets secured their fourth consecutive victory and improved to a 4-2 record overall.
The BW offense scored a season-high 11 runs on 11 hits, five walks, and three stolen bases against the Blazers. The team was led by All-Ohio Athletic Conference juniors Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North) and Alex Green (Pickerington/North) who both went 2-for-3 with two scored runs and two runs batted in. Also for the Yellow Jackets, junior shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/Midpark) went 3-for-3 on three singles, a run scored, and a run batted in.
On the mound, senior right-handed pitcher Cory Waite (Willoughby/Willoughby South) threw six shutout innings on five strikeouts and only two hits. In relief, Luke Ackerman (Sheffield Village/Brookside), Cory Durbin (Canton/GlenOak), and Connor Murphy (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) combined to seal the BW victory by providing three innings of work.
BW is back in action tomorrow (Tuesday, March 11) when it faces Montclair State (N.J.)
