Baseball Team Defeats Oberlin College in Non-Conference Game
OBERLIN, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team defeated Oberlin College, 2-1, today (Tuesday, April 10, 2012) in a single nine-inning non-conference game at Dill Field.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 19-6 overall while the Yeomen fell to 16-14 overall.
B-W took an early lead, 1-0, as it scored its lone run on two hits. Junior leftfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) lead off the game with a base knock through the left side and then stole second base. Toughey would advance to third on a ground out and would score a two-out RBI single by junior second baseman Jay Yost (Bascom/Hopewell-Loudon).
Oberlin tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning as it scored the tying run on three hits.

The game would remain tied until the top of the seventh when the Yellow Jackets would score what turned out to be the game winning run on two hits.  Freshman first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North) reached first on a two-out single to left field and would advance to second on a passed ball. Sophomore second baseman Brad Gugliotta (Twinsburg) came into pinch hit and drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single to right field.

The B-W offense scored the two runs on eight hits and was led by freshman designated hitter Zach Ferster (Olmsted Falls) as he went 2-for-2 with a double. Chontos, Gugliotta, freshman third baseman Eric Murphy (Brook Park/Midpark), junior centerfielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria), Toughey and Yost each added a base hit each. 

On the mound, senior Brett Edmonds (Olmsted Falls) he tossed his first collegiate complete game.  Edmonds pitched nine innings and allowed just one run on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks. His complete-game effort lowered his earned run average from 9.90 to 4.42 overall.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday, April 11) when they host Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Heritage Field.   First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.  B-W concludes the week when it will travel to Wilmington to take on the Quakers of Wilmington College in an OAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m.
