Today's Game -- The Baldwin Wallace University football team hosts Muskingum on Saturday, September 28 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium on Community Day. The Yellow Jackets lost last Saturday to John Carroll by a final score of 27-7 on the Tressel Field. The Fighting Muskies fell to the defending NCAA Division III Champion Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union by a score of 37-0 at home.
Series Notes -- This is the 57th meeting in football between BW and Muskingum. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 41-13-2, including seven straight victories and a thrilling 13-7 overtime victory a year ago in New Concord. During its current seven-game winning streak, BW has outscored Muskingum, 214-84. The last Muskie win came in 2005 by a 16-10 count in New Concord. The series began in 1917 when the Fighting Muskes defeated the Yellow Jackets, 25-7.
Last Meeting -- The last time BW and Muskingim met on September 22, 2012, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Fighting Muskies, 13-7 in overtime. Muskingum led 6-3 after the first quarter and a missed extra point proved to be the key factor in the Fighting Muskies loss. BW kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter and scored the winning touchdown in overtime. The Yellow Jackets outgained Muskingum, 317-186, in total offense
Scouting The Yellow Jackets
In week two of the season, BW scored seven points on 134 yards rushing, 49 yards passing and 183 total yards. The Yellow Jackets allowed 27 points on 110 yards rushing, 258 yards passing and 368 total yards.
Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders
Offensively, junior quarterback Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./ Pine Castle Christian) has completed 14-of-22 passes for 237 yards with two TDs and three interceptions. Slack also leads the team in rushing with 129 yards on 27 carries with a TD. Junior running back Nolan Sordyl (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) has carried the ball 22 times for 85 yards and two scores. Junior WR Javon Burks (Naples, Fla./Golden Gate) has hauled in three passes for 100 (33.3 ypc) and one TD.
Defensively, senior LB David Flegal (Akron/Revere) leads the team with 23 tackles. Junior DB Nelson Candelario (Cape Coral, Fla/Island Coast) is second on the team with 18, inlcuding a game-high 12 last week. Senior LB Matt Torgler (Orrville/Dalton) is third with 15 after his 10 tackle performance last week.
Scouting The Fighting Muskies
In week two of the season, the Fiightin Muskies did not score a point on 22 yards rushing, 47 yards passing and 69 total yards. Mount Unionl did not allowed a point on 210 yards rushing, 247 yards passing and 457 total yards.
Fighting Muskies Statistical Leaders
Offensively, sophomore QB C.J. Snider has completed 21-of-38 passes for 204 yards with one TD and two interceptions. He also is the top runner with 114 yards in 34 attempts with a TD. Senior WR James Washington leads the team with 11 catches for 144 yards and a TD and senior TE Wes Rataiczak has five grabs for 48 yards. Senior RB Shane Dotson has 87 yards in 25 attempts and has caught three passes for seven yards.
Defensivley, junior LBDamond Goggins has 13 stops, freshmen DB Tyler Lancaster and sophomore FS Ethan Jones each have 11 tackles. Senior DE Luke Weber has added 10. The Fighting Muskies hae three interception and one sack
