Today's Game -- The Baldwin Wallace University football team opens the 2013 season at Bluffton University on September 14 in Dwight Salzman Stadium at 1:30 p.m. in Bluffton.   The Yellow Jackets finished the 2012 season wirth a record of 7-3.  The Beavers opened with 37-20 loss at Ohio Wesleyan last Saturday. 

Series Notes -- BW and Bluffton have met three times on the gridiron with BW winning all three games. BW beat the Beavers 26-0 in 1933 in Bluffton, triumphed 34-0 in 1934 in Berea and won 45-13 last season in Berea.  BW has outscored the Beavers, 105-13, in the all-time series.

The Coaches -- BW head coach and 1987 graduate John Snell enters his 12th season. Snell finished his 17th season at his alma mater in 2012. He had previously served as an assistant in charge of quarterbacks and recruiting and was the Yellow Jacket offensive coordinator for five years. In the spring of 2001, Snell was elevated to assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. 

Bluffton is coached by Tyson Veidt, who made his debut at Bluffton in the Beavers' 2008 opener at Alma College. He came to Bluffton after assistant coaching stints at West Virginia and Indiana. Coach Veidt led the Beavers to their first winning season since 2000 as the Beavers finished 2012 with a 6-4 mark. 

Last Meeting -- The last time BW and Bluffton met on September 8 in Berea when the Yellow Jackets defeated the Beavers, 45-13. BW led 3-0 after one quarter and 24-0 at halftime. Bluffton scored its 13 point in the final seven minutes of the game.  The Yellow Jackets outgained the Beavers, 460-246, in total offense

Scouting The Yellow Jackets
Last season, the Yellow Jackets averaged 32.4 points, 186.1 yards rushing,183.5 yards passing and 369.6 total yards. BW opponents averaged 22.5 ppg, 159.7 yards rushing, 188.6 yards passing and 348.3 total yards per game. The Yellow Jackets had a - 8 turnover ratio.

Returning Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders
Offensively, junior QB Michael Slack (Casselberry Fla./Pine Castle Christian Academy) takes over as the starter and passed for 32 yards and ran for 206 yards with three TDs.  Sophomore running back Issac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh) rushed for 79 yards and two TDs.  Junior RB Nolan Sordyl (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) rushed for 148 yards with four TDs.  Senior WR Josiah Holt (Elyria/Midview) caught 41 balls for 642 yards and five TDs.

Defensively, senior LB Michael Stacchiotti (Girard) had a team-leading 72 tackles.  Senior FS Zach Barley (Hudson) tallied 52 stops with a three interceptions.  Senior DL Sam Gordon (Broadview Heights/University School) had 28 tackles and three sacks.

Scouting The Beavers
In week one week of the season, the Beavers scored 20 points on 104 yards rushing, 177 yards passing and 281 total yards. Bluffton allowed 37 points on 190 yards rushing, 331 yards passing and 521 total yards. The Beavers won the turnover battle in week one, 3-2. 

Baver Statistical Leaders
Offensively, junior QB Nick Sheehan completed 19-of-41 passes for 177 yards and two TDs but was sacked three times. He also led the Beavers on the ground with 38 rush yards in six attempts. Senior tight end Drake Harrington caught four passes for 22 yards. Senoir WR Shawn Frost had three grabs for 36 yards and both TDs. Junior RB Eric Fox had 36 rushing yards in six trips and senior RB C.J. Sewell had 34 yards on 12 attempts. 

Defensively,  senior LB Joe Runda led the way with a game-high 13 tackles, including nine solo stops, two QB sacks and three tackles for loss. Sophomore free safety Travaun Reaves had nine tackles.
