Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium
Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium is located in the Lou Higgins Center
and is home to the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's
basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams.
The Ursprung Gym comfortably seats 2,800 fans in its
permanent stands. Additional seating can increase The Lou Higgins
Center capacity to between 4,000-to-7,000 seats during indoor
graduation exercises or presidential visits/speeches. The gymnasium
was completed renovated in 1986 and has housed BW basketball since
1949.
As part of the renovation of Ursprung, chair back seating and
a new media center were constructed while training and physical
therapy, laundry and eight locker rooms were added. Other features
include classrooms, offices, a room for news media as well as
exhibit and storage areas for the BW Athletic Archives. The
Archives give students, alumni, parents, friends and visitors to BW
a glimpse of the rich tradition and heritage of Yellow Jacket teams
and former student-athletes, including four-time Olympic gold
medalist Harrison Dillard '49, College Football Hall of Fame Coach
and BW Athletic Director Dr. Lee Tressel and legendary Women's
Athletic Director Marcia French '63.
In addition, a year ago, a student section entitled "The Hive"
was created in the southeast corner of the Ursprung Gymnasium to
accomodate a vocal student cheering section. It has been
another great addition to the total Yellow Jacket student-athlete
experience.
